The formal vote on the revised Semantic Model Charter did not meet quorum requirements by October 16. According to the PWG process , “voting is automatically extended by up to two 30 calendar day Formal Approval extension periods.” By my count, the first Formal Approval extension period will end on 15 November, about two weeks after the virtual face-to-face meetings.
The revised charter is accessible at http://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/sm3/wd/wd-sm30-charter-20150914.pdf. It does not identify any new projects and drops previously identified projects that have had no support. What it does do is state that the primary task of the Semantic Model working group is to maintain the PWG Semantic Model to include features, elements and operations established by other PWG workgroups. The intent is to document and preserve the basic PWG approach to communicating printing information, instructions and status, independent of any specific binding.
This proposed charter, the rational for it and possible objections to the much reduced scope will be discussed at the virtual face-to-face meetings. We urge participation in these discussions and/or on the SM3 mail list to either approve this charter or develop an alternate charter which the membership can support.
Thank you,
Bill Wagner, SM Workgroup Secretary
