"Graphic" presumably means business graphics (lines, bars, graphs,
and other computer-generated imagery), while "photo" means an actual
photographic image.
Some devices can be optimized for different types of output; e.g.,
photo output might use a variable dot size mode on the device, while
graphic output might use a single dot size mode for speed. Similarly,
the resolution enhancements provided on laser printers are not all
appropriate for all types of output.
