All,

This is a working group Last Call for the "Internet Printing
Protocol(IPP): The 'collection' attribute syntax".
The latest version of this document has been
forwarded to the Internet Draft directory as
<draft-ietf-ipp-collection-03.tx>.

The Last Call notice follows:

This is a formal request for final comments within the IETF IPP
working group for one document. The document is "Internet Printing
Protocol(IPP): The 'collection' attribute syntax" which is being proposed
for forwarding on to the IESG for publication as an RFC to complement the
previous suite of IPP/1.1 documents. This is a working group product, which
has been thoroughly discussed since mid 1999.

Please note that I would like to see your comments on whether you want to
see
this document published as Informational, Experimental or Standards Track
RFC.
The document "Internet Printing Protocol	(IPP): Job and Printer Set
Operations" that was IPP WG Last Called and closed on May 12, 2000 without
comments, actually refers to this document. In order to progress the "Job
and
Printer Set Operations" document as Standards Track document, then either
this
document also has to be a Standards Track document, or we need to remove the

parts in the Job and Printer Set Operations document which refers to the
'collection' syntax. Although this functionality has been considered
"over-the-top" by some members of the IPP WG, I would like to emphasize that

other common syntaxes like XML and ASN.1 have provided this kind of
functionality from the beginning. For now, this is an OPTIONAL extension for

IPP/1.0 and 1.1.

The document has undergone considerable review and revisions during the past

year and I believe that we now have working group consensus on its adequacy.

The purpose of a working group Last Call is in the style of "speak now or
forever hold your peace" in case there are fundamental objections which have
not gotten previous or adequate discussion, or minor errors which need
correction.

Last Calls are for a minimum of 2 weeks. We will start the Last Call period
today Friday 7 June, 2000 and the period for working group comments will
close on Friday, 21 June (US Pacific time reference), 2000.

The relevant document is:

Title : Internet Printing Protocol(IPP): The 'collection'
                          attribute syntax
	Author(s)	: R. deBry, T. Hastings, R. Herriot, K. Ocke, P.
Zehler
	Filename	: draft-ietf-ipp-collection-03.txt
	Pages : 26
	Date : 06-Jul-00

This document specifies an OPTIONAL attribute syntax called
'collection' for use with the Internet Printing Protocol/1.0
(IPP) [RFC2565, RFC2566], IPP/1.1 [ipp-mod, ipp-pro], and
subsequent versions. A 'collection' is a container holding one or
more named values, which are called 'member' attributes. A
collection allows data to be grouped like a PostScript dictionary
or a Java Map. This document also specifies the conformance
requirements for a definition document that defines a collection
attribute.

Internet-Drafts can also be obtained by e-mail.

Send a message to:
	mailserv at ietf.org.
In the body type:
	"FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-ipp-collection-03.txt".

NOTE:	The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
	how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
Internet-Draft.

Sincerely,

Carl-Uno Manros
