As I recall, the topic of exactly when a Reset would occur (after
a Set operation via SNMP) did come up during the original MIB
development. While no clarifying statements made it into the MIB
spec, most folks (at least as I recall) seemed to think that it was
totally reasonable to effect the Reset at the earliest--and safest--
moment during printer operation, probably at the end of the current
job, if applicable.
And you're right. If the printer is indeed hung, then chances are
a Set operation will not conclude properly. In this case, most folks
will probably simply power-cycle the printer.
