All,
Our weighting exercise for your favorite Notification Delivery Method closed
on Friday.
Here are the highlights, and I decide that we have reached rough consensus:
Of a total of 24 people who sent in points, 20 preferred to have at least
one mandated notification delivery method, only 4 were against.
Out a total of 84 cast points (this includes 8 points from people who
had voted against a mandated method, but expressed preferences anyway):
- Email 56 points
- INDP 20 points
- IPP-Get 6 points
- SNMP 4 points
From the comments received, it is clear that Email is the only method
recommended
which can actually work in the Internet environment. Many preferred INDP for
intranet usage.
We also had suggestions to look further at immediate messaging (IM)
services, such as SMS,
which might be the subject for further IPP WG work in the future.
Unfortunately, the IETF
work on (IM) is currently in limbo land.
I will store the detailed result on the IPP FTP server.
