I agree with your suggestion to revist SASL.
But, it remains important for Printer objects in Directory Agents
(LDAP, SLP, or other) to list the 'printer-uri-supported' and
'uri-security-supported' attributes (both are REQUIRED directory
attributes in the June 1998 spec). Otherwise, the printer
(unwisely) publishes a separate directory registration
instance for each supported printer URL. Also, the
supported security modes is an important attribute
for a client to be able to filter their directory search
with.
