Hi,
For those of you currently not on the IETF FAX DL.
Over the last 36 hours there has been an intensive debate about a new draft
from the IETF FAX WG, now out for IETF wide review, on how to use CONNEG
over SMTP for Internet FAX:
-----
The IESG has received a request from the Internet Fax Working Group to
consider SMTP Service Extension for Content Negotiation
<draft-ietf-fax-esmtp-conneg-02.txt> as a Proposed Standard.
The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits
final comments on this action. Please send any comments to the
iesg@ietf.org or ietf@ietf.org mailing lists by July 29, 2002.
Files can be obtained via
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-fax-esmtp-conneg-02.txt
-----
4 current/earlier Application Area Directors plus various other email
experts seem to have rather divergent views on whether the approach chosen
in the draft is good, which only goes to show how difficult it is to try to
achieve agreements on how to do direct negotation over a store-and-forward
protocol.
I think this is good news for the PWG version of running FAX over IPP.
