Here are some suggestions that Paul and I collaborated on that Paul sent to
the Internet FAX DL as suggested additions to the TIFF-FX Extension 1
document. The resolutions came from the IPP FAX agreements in the October
minutes, the media size from the PWG Media size standard, and the color
    space from the HTML-Print document.

    To the Internet FAX WG:

The IPP FAX group would like to reference the TIFF-FX standard with
Extension 1 in its IPP FAX standard. Then the IPP FAX standard could just
    define a TIFF-FX profile.

We suggest that these extensions be considered for inclusion in your
    "TIFF-FX Extensions 1" specification:

    a. The following additional image resolutions: 2400x2400, 2880x2880,
    4800x4800, 720x720, and 1440x1440.

    b. means to specify the media size by dimensions, instead of by name. We
suggest using the new PWG Media Size string syntax and semantics which has
both name and two dimensions in it, i.e., 'na-letter.8500-11000',
    'iso-a4.2100-2970', 'na-custom-long-and-narrow.6000-14000' and
    'custom-xyz.2000-3000'. See:
    ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/media-sizes/pwg-media-size-03.pdf

Actually the thing we need is the drawing surface size not the actual
    physical
    media size

    c. additional standard color spaces, besides CIELAB. Possibilities include:

For Grayscale Images: Sample values in a grayscale (single-component) JPEG
image shall be converted to the sRGB color space by setting

       Rout= Gout = Bout = Grayin

For Color Images: Sample values in 3-component JPEG images shall be
interpreted as YCbCr samples, as would be obtained by applying the matrices
described in ITU BT.601 to sRGB input data.

    Thank you,
    Paul Moore
    Chair, IPP FAX WG

    The IETF FAX DL is:

       ietf-fax@imc.org

    not:

       ietf-fax@img.org

I corrected in the mail message below as well.

    Sorry,

The Internet Fax WG is meeting at the IETF meeting next Monday, March 19.

The IPP FAX UIF (Universal Image Format) standard is using TIFF/FX. It
would be good to get any additional features into TIFF/FX itself that IPP
    FAX needs.

Therefore, ASAP members of the IPP FAX group could send additional
requirements for the TIFF/FX extension work outlined below to the Internet
FAX (IFAX) WG using their DL:

       ietf-fax@imc.org

    (and cc to the ifx@pwg.org)

    Possible additional requirements:

    a. additional image resolutions, or are the resolutions already in the
TIFF-FX Extension Set 1 document sufficient (see mail note below)?

    b. means to specify the media size by dimensions, instead of by name,
possibly using the new PWG Media Size string which has both name and two
    dimensions in it, i.e., 'na-letter.8500-11000', 'iso-a4.2100-2970',
    'na-custom-long-and-narrow.6000-14000' and 'custom-xyz.2000-3000'

    c. additional color spaces, besides CIELAB. Possibilities include:

For Grayscale Images: Sample values in a grayscale (single-component) JPEG

For Color Images: Sample values in 3-component JPEG images shall be
interpreted as YCbCr samples, as would be obtained by applying the matrices
described in ITU BT.601 to sRGB input data.

    Thanks,
    Tom

Below is the IETF's announcement notice for the second draft of the first
extension set for TIFF-FX. This extension, TIFF-FX Extension Set 1, focuses
on introduction of the new JBIG2 encoding for B&W and colored text, see
    sections E1.5, E1.6 and E1.7. JBIG2 provides 3 to 5x compression advantage
over G4 (MMR) and JBIG encodings. The extension also introduces a set of new
    higher resolutions (e.g. 300x600, 400x800, 600x600, 600x1200 and 1200x1200
dpi) and associated image widths (section E1.3), provisions use more than 3
layers in MRC model of Profile M (section E1.4), and provision to signal
when more than one profile is being used within a file (section E1.2).

Please review and submit your comments on the IETF IFax Working Group dl at
    ietf-fax@imc.org.

    A New Internet-Draft is available from the on-line Internet-Drafts
    directories.
This draft is a work item of the Internet Fax Working Group of the IETF.

            Title : TIFF-FX Extensions 1

    Buckley
            Filename : draft-ietf-fax-tiff-fx-extension1-01.txt

This document is an Internet draft for extensions to TIFF-FX
    [RFC XXXX], extension set 1.

"anonymous" and a password of your e-mail address. After logging in,
    type "cd internet-drafts" and then

    In the body type:
            "FILE /internet-drafts/draft-ietf-fax-tiff-fx-extension1-01.txt".

NOTE: The mail server at ietf.org can return the document in
MIME-encoded form by using the "mpack" utility. To use this
feature, insert the command "ENCODING mime" before the "FILE"
command. To decode the response(s), you will need "munpack" or
a MIME-compliant mail reader. Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split
up into multiple messages), so check your local documentation on
            how to manipulate these messages.

Below is the data which will enable a MIME compliant mail reader
implementation to automatically retrieve the ASCII version of the
    Internet-Draft.
