Below is the text about operational state versus power state from the
current Prototype draft of the PWG Power MIB (8 January):
4.5 PWG Imaging System State and Counter MIB v2 - States
The PWG Imaging System State and Counter (ISC) MIB v2 [PWG5106.3]
defines the REQUIRED icKeyTable and icServiceTable and OPTIONAL
icSubunitTable, which MUST be implemented as persistent across power
cycles for conforming implementations of this PWG Imaging System Power
MIB. The PWG ISC MIB also defines the IcServiceTypeTC,
IcServiceStateTC, IcSubunitTypeTC, and IcSubunitStatusTC (bit-mask
identical to PrtSubUnitStatusTC defined in IETF Printer MIB v2) textual
conventions.
If the pow[Monitor/Log]ComponentType object takes a value of ‘system’,
then the corresponding icServiceState object (with icServiceType of
‘sytemTotals’) SHOULD be implemented to report the System
operational state (e.g., ‘idle’ or ‘processing’), which directly impacts
power consumption.
If the pow[Monitor/Log]ComponentType object takes a value of any
Subunit defined in the IcSubunitType textual convention in the PWG ISC
MIB, then the corresponding icSubunitStatus object SHOULD be
implemented to report the Subunit operational state (e.g., ‘Available and
Idle’ or ‘Available and Active’), which directly impacts power consumption.
I'm now drafting a new section for the PWG Power Model spec that
discusses System and Subunit object operational state and power
state relationships.
I also plan to add new Server and Client conformance requirements
to the PWG Power MIB to say that they SHOULD implement and use
the PWG Imaging System State and Counter MIB (with at least the
second conformance statement icMIBStateCompliance) so that:
(1) icServiceState correlates to pow[Monitor/Log]PowerState
- icServiceType='systemTotals'
- powLogComponentType='system'
(2) icSubunitStatus correlates to pow[Monitor/Log]PowerState
- icSubunitType='<subunitType>'
- powLogComponentType='<subunitType>'
for accurate presentation of state information to end users.
