Gentlemen,
I agree with Ron that the descriptions are potentially misleading and at
best are not helpful. I agree with Ira that the counter MIB and the Counter
spec should use consistent terminology. However, the Counter Spec has
undergone much editing and does not explicitly define terms such as "black
media sheets", or "full color media sheets".
The applicable definitions would probably be those of the form:
"MediaUsed.BlackSheets
The total number of pieces of this specific media that have been
used and which only black colorant is placed on either side of the media."
... which is a bit cumbersome (I think I would reword this) but similar to
Ron's suggestion.
Although it may be troublesome to define exactly the same terms in two
related documents, in that these definitions may be interpreted differently.
That does not appear to be the case here. I would suggest there is an
advantage to making the definitions in the MIB more useful (or alternately
to use the exact terms used in the Counter Spec, which would be structurally
difficult)
I would also object to some of Ron's alternate wordings in that the
definitions are different that thiose that may be inferred from the counter
spec. For example,
icSheetFullColorSheets
"Media sheets printed by this managed service (e.g.,
'icServiceType' of 'print') or managed subunit (e.g.,
'icSubunitType' of 'marker') using full color."
Does not have the same sense as the definition of full color implicit in the
Counter Spec.
"MediaUsed.FullColorSheets
The total number of pieces of this specific media that have been
used and which one or more non-black colorants is placed on either side of a
piece of media."
By the way, I expect that this should start up some comment on the Counter
spec definitions, since the wording is not only cumbersome, but would have
Highlighted products also counted as full color products.

Hi Ron,
The first is a good catch - thanks.
The rest are rewordings that attempt to tersely redefine
what a 'black media sheet' (for example) means. The
Counter MIB normatively imports these definitions from
the Counter Spec. The rewordings are possibly dangerous
and add no value (in my opinion). It is NOT the business
of the Counter MIB to redefine these terms at variance
with the Counter Spec.
My two cents,

I have two comments on this document.
1. Invalid examples in the description clause for:
icKeySubunitType The text "(e.g., print, copy, etc.)" is incorrect
for this object. Should be "(e.g., inputTray, outputBin, etc.)".
2. Unclear wording in the description clauses for:
icSheetBlackSheets:
Current:
"Black media sheets printed by this
managed service (e.g., 'icServiceType' of 'print')
or managed subunit (e.g., 'icSubunitType' of 'marker')."
Suggested:
"Media sheets printed by this managed service (e.g.,
'icServiceType' of 'print') or managed subunit (e.g.,
'icSubunitType' of 'marker') using only black colorant."
icSheetBlankSheets
Current:
"Blank media sheets printed by this
managed service (e.g., 'icServiceType' of 'print')
or managed subunit (e.g., 'icSubunitType' of 'marker')."
Suggested:

icSheetFullColorSheets
