Subject: RE: WIMS> ACTION Request: suggestions for mandatory MFP counters in
Counter MIB proposal
Hi Pete,
Admittedly I have not kept up with the discussions, so my questions may have
been fully covered
in the meetings, so I apologize in advance.
1. I question why the term "ImpressionsTwoSided" is used in the counter
names. This seems to
me to be confusing, since an impression is one side of a sheet a two
sided impression is a
two sided single side of a sheet? Wouldn't "SheetsTwoSided" be better?
<PZ>The reason it is impressions is that it counts impressions. The
ImpressionsTwoSided counter increments for each side that is impressed. The
impression counters allow us to derive the number of simplex and duplex
sheets. The MediaUsed counter is used for tracking the media resources
consumed by the various services.</PZ>
2. The "MediaUsedMedia" and "MediaUsedMediaInfo" appear to not be counters?
Why are they
listed as counters?
<PZ>These two elements are used to uniquely identify a media instance. I'll
add some explanitory text to make it clearer.</PZ>
That aside, here is my recommendation for a standard subset:
1. Impressions
2. BlankImpressions
3. ImpressionsTwoSided (SheetsTwoSided)
4. KOctetes
5. AuxiliaryImpressions
6. AuxiliaryImpressionsTwoSided (AuxiliarySheetsTwoSided)
7. WasteImpressions
8. WasteImpressionsTwoSided (WasteSheetsTwoSided)
9. MediaUsedTotalSheets
10. ProcessingTime
11. TotalTime
<PZ>Thanks. I assume items 1, 2 and 3 are for the DocumentData counts</PZ>

Counter MIB proposal
All,
The work on the "PWG Standard for Multifunction Device Counters" is nearing
completion. Before a standard MIB is coded we are looking for the subset of
counters to mandate in all implementations of the Counter MIB or schema.
One of the goals of this work is to facilitate the development of fleet
management applications in a heterogeneous imaging environment. I need
input from you to arrive at a manageable subset of counters that meets the
needs of fleet management applications and is not to onerous for MFP vendors
to implement. Please send me your input by close of business Friday October
29. Send your comments to < <mailto:wins at pwg.org> mailto:wins at pwg.org> or
you can mail them to me d irectly < <mailto:pzehler at crt.xerox.com>
mailto:pzehler at crt.xerox.com> .
The current version of the specification is available on the PWG ftp server
