Following is a suggested rewording of the rewording of the
introductory paragraphs of section 3, intended to indicate that a
complete MIB II is required for reasons other than the printer MIB.
The specific printer MIB requirements for the System group stem from a
reference to sysUpTime; the requirements for the Interfaces Group stem
from the reference to the Interfaces table. I think this was the gist
of the conversation about this at the New Orleans meeting. By the
way, although the question came up as to whether the storage group of
the hrMIB should be mandatory, I do not think there was a conclusion.
If there are no serious objections, I suggest this be incorporated in
the draft.

3. Groups from other MIB Specifications
This section identifies the groups from other MIB's that shall be
supported to supplement and complete a printer MIB implementation. The
section also describes some of the less obvious characteristics of the
Printer MIB structure that are related to the inclusion of these other
MIB groups.
Note that, insofar as there is a network node associated with the
SNMP agent supporting the printer MIB, network management requires
that that SNMP agent implement all of the appropriate groups of
MIB-II (RFC1213) for the network node. This requirement is in
addition to any explicit requirements of the Printer MIB.
3.1. System Group
The Printer MIB makes specific reference to certain objects in the
system group of MIB-II (RFC 1213). Therefore, an SNMP agent implementing
the Printer MIB shall also implement the system group of MIB-II
(RFC 1213). However, as described in paragraph 3.4, implementers must
carefully consider what constitutes the system.
3.2. System Controller
The Storage and Device Groups of the Host Resources MIB (RFC 1514)
shall be implemented to support the printer(s) system controller, and
any supporting devices. If deemed appropriate by the implementer, other
Groups of the Host Resources MIB (System, Running Software, Running
Software Performance, and Installed Software) may be implemented.
Because of the structure of the Host Resources MIB, the devices
constituting the system controller are at the same level as the printer.
See paragraph 3.4 for an outline of the implications of this.
3.3. Interface Group
The Printer MIB makes explicit reference to objects in the Interfaces
Group of MIB II (RFC1213). Therefore, the appropriate objects in the
Interfaces Group of MIB-II shall be implemented for all print
information interfaces to the printer, including non-network
interfaces.
