Babak,

Attached are some instructions and general information about the PWG
mailing list and ftp services.

Briefly, you can subscribe to the PWG mailing list by sending an email
message to "majordomo at pwg.org", where the message body is a single
line containg the string "pwg". Note that the subject line is ignored.

By the way, just so you know, the "Printer Working Group" (PWG) is an
industry association that addresses standards within the printer industry.
At times, when appropriate, the PWG will petition the IETF to form a
"working group" for a specific initiative, such as the creation or update
of an RFC. As such, an "IETF printer working group" is different than
the PWG, although many (if not most) of the IETF working group participants
are also PWG participants.

PWG Mailing List and FTP Server have moved to Underscore
--------------------------------------------------------

Greetings!

Underscore is pleased to bring you the new Printer Working Group
Internet server. We are currently providing Mail List and FTP services.
Instructions for using the various services are described in the
  sections below.

Your subscription to the old PMI list has been converted over to the new
list, so there is nothing you must do to automatically receive messages
posted to the new list. Hewlett-Packard (maintainers of the old PMI
mailing list and FTP services) has agreed to automatically redirect any
mail received for the old PMI mailing list to the new PWG mailing list.

As of this date, please post messages to the PWG mailing list using this
  email address:

        pwg at pwg.org (mailto:pwg at pwg.org)

Please begin using this new mailing list address immediately.

Mailing List Services

To post a message to the PWG mailing list, address the message to:

        pwg at pwg.org (mailto:pwg at pwg.org)

To send an administrative request to the mailing list (where the types
of requests are documented below), address the message to:

        majordomo at pwg.org (mailto:majordomo at pwg.org)

Archives of the mailing list are retained in the directory:

        FTP://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/snmpmib/Archive

The archives are updated on a monthly basis. You can retrieve the archive
for the current month using the Majordomo "get" command as described below.
When the Web server becomes available, you will also be able to browse a
  threaded Hypermail mail archive.

Mailing list services are managed using Brent Chapman's "Majordomo", version
1.93. Following is an extract from the standard Majordomo help file; in the
text below, substitute the "<list>" keyword with "pwg" to reference the PWG
  mailing list:

  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the description below items contained in []'s are optional. When
providing the item, do not include the []'s around it.

If you have any questions or encounter problems with the PWG mailing list,
  please send a message to:

        majordomo-owner at pwg.org (mailto:majordomo-owner at pwg.org)

The "info pwg" command currently returns the following information:

pwg - Printer Working Group (PWG)

This is the primary mailing list for the Printer Working Group
        industry standards committee.

The PWG is an ad-hoc industry standards committee addressing the
needs of the network printer community of vendors and users.

The PWG FTP archives are located at: FTP://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg

Work on a PWG World Wide Web site is under way.

The PWG has developed the following standards:

            - IETF Printer MIB (RFC-1759), available at
               HTTP://ds.internic.net/rfc/rfc1759.txt

            - DMTF DMI Printer MIF, available at
               FTP://serverNT.dmtf.org/mifs/printer/prtmif84.txt

            - IEEE 1284.1 (TIPSI, the Transport Independent Printer
System interface). IEEE 1284 committee archives are
               located at FTP://ftp.lexmark.com/pub/ieee

Other PWG efforts, such as the SENSE project and the Job MIB,
are currently in progress; additional information on these PWG
projects will be posted as available.

FTP Services

Files maintained by the PWG are located at:

        FTP://ftp.pwg.org

Anyone may access the PWG FTP services using the standard "anonymous" login
name; please be sure to enter your electronic mail address when prompted for
a password. Note that using the login name "anonymous" will only allow you
  to fetch (download) files.

To install (upload) files you must use the login name of "pwg" and specify
the proper password. Note that the "pwg" ftp login account currently has
the same password as the "snmpmib" account as it existed on the former PWG
FTP server. Unlike the former FTP server, however, you do not have to enter
  any special commands to change protections (modes) for newly created files;
the FTP server will automatically ensure that all files created are
protected for world read access with the proper ownership rights.

If you need the "pwg" account password to upload files, send an
  email message to this address:

        webmaster at pwg.org

FTP services are managed using Washington University's FTP server,
  version 2.4.

The Printer Working Group archives are in FTP://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg

The "snmpmib" tree (as it existed on the former PWG FTP server) has
been replicated in its entirety with no reorganization; this tree,
however, is expected to be reorganized in the future, with many files
being moved into appropriate archive areas. Notices announcing the
file tree reorganization will be posted to the PWG mailing list.

When you connect to the PWG FTP server the following banner message is
displayed; note that the service also handles Underscore corporate FTP,
hence the dual address in the banner:

    230-
    230- ftp.underscore.com -- ftp.pwg.org
    230-

Depending on the FTP client software you use, you may or may not see the
"230-" prefix on each of the above lines.

Web Services

As of this writing, the PWG Home Page is not quite complete, but is
expected to be available sometime in August 1996 at this location:

Messages will be posted to the PWG mailing list when these services
  have been completed.

Should You Have Problems or Questions

Please direct all questions, comments, suggestions or complaints to:

        Email: webmaster at pwg.org (mailto:webmaster at pwg.org)
Phone: +1 603 889 7000 (ask for the "PWG Webmaster")

In case you're curious, the mail/ftp/web server is a Sun SPARCstation 2
running Solaris 2.5 with a T1 connection to the Internet.
