I agree with all of what you said. I'd observe that client
implementors at Xerox don't like deprecating the old trap
because they need two similar pieces of trap logic, for no
perceived gain.
Actually, RFC 1759 was written to RFC 1442 (1993 SMIv2) rules
which didn't have 'accessible-for-notify' (I know the index
should never have been in the trap bindings anyway), added
by RFC 1902 (1996 SMIv2).
And since RFC 2578-2580 are now Internet Standard 58 and
obsolete RFC 190x (per 'rfc-index.txt'), we should probably
be careful to quote only the 1999 SMIv2 spec in arguing
what to do with the Printer MIB's 'prtAlert...' trap.
