Hi Paul,
Two points on the Schema graphics, which I have looked at:
1. PWG members are accustomed to the 'element' oriented styles such as
used in Spy and Liquid XML. And considering the readability of the graphics
when incorporated in a spec, especially with the large element groups (many
of which need to be done in sections for inclusion in the spec), less
detailed representations are better. Some of the others appear to be a bit
cluttered.
2. When composing the spec pages, the editor needs to be able to play
with the schema graphics, considering the size and number of element groups,
the relation to the text, and balancing illustration of interrelations with
details, to decide how to partition the graphics and which complex elements
to expand to deeper. I could not do that with the Web presentations, or
with the Imaging Service.png that you sent (I found that Paint does open
this file in a usable way.)
I am working to resurrect an old PC that has the Liquid XML program that I
used in the MFD Model and Common Semantics spec. If that is successful (and
I act as editor), that may be the easiest approach.
However, the critical thing is that the Schema is correct and up to date.
The most frustrating thing about the MFD Model and Common Semantics spec was
that the schema kept on changing (reflecting the continuing development of
the model). The current task is to ensure that the development of the
imaging system configuration, as represented in the schema, is complete.
The graphics will then follow.

I am planning to review the different products profiled in the document Mike
located on the web when viewing the Schema diagrams that may need updating
for inclusion in SM 2.0 Section 5 System Configuration.
I will make some notes and post my findings either as an e-mail or on the
PWG FTP site.
I have the task scheduled for completion prior to the SM meeting of July
29th, 2013 so that the findings can be reviewed during the meeting.

Paul,
I believe Altova's XML Spy has several versions (two of them - Professional
and Enterprise are the ones we need to look at - at least). Pete mentioned a
while back that even the Professional version (somewhere around $600) is
not capable of doing some things we need for our work. One probably needs
the Enterprise Edition (upwards of $1300 - prices vary based on corporate
discounts). I used the Professional ((trial version) and that seemed to work
fine (until the trial period expired). Once we decide, I will put in a
request for a purchase of the right version we need.

Hi Mike,
Today we have a significant amount of the PWG Schema formatted for
compatibility with XMLSpy. I believe this is primarily because it was the
tool Pete had available when he was maintaining the schema.
Bill brought up as a discussion topic in the recent Semantic Model bi-weekly
teleconference the need to choose a tool prior to moving forward with
updating the schema diagrams for the SM 2.0 project.
It looks like we are lucky he brought up this discussion item at this time.
As I have an action item to update the schema diagrams for section 5 (System
Configuration) for the draft SM 2.0 document, I'll try out a few of these
tools and see whether any particular tool seems to handle the current PWG
Schema format better than others and then report my results to the group

Where we are moving the PWG web site to a new virtual host, I wonder whether
the PWG could purchase an XMLSpy license and install it on the new virtual

authors logging in remotely to run it.
