Hi Mike,
Thanks for the update. My sponsor provided some feedback regarding the proposed new media types for medicine bags.
He agrees that having more options is a good thing and appreciates the PWG's efforts.
However, he raises a concern that some end-users, such as hospital staff, may be resistant to changing their current workflows to use the new paper types.
Regarding your request for suppliers, he has provided some Japanese resources for "薬袋" (yakutai), which are medicine bags.
He notes that these vendors often do not have English websites, but they are a good starting point to understand the product requirements.
https://www.ddc.co.jp/yakutai/product/https://kinshi.co.jp/product/package/
He also provided some cultural context, noting that since one-third of the Japanese population is over 65, medicine bags have become one of the most frequently used printed materials in Japan.
Thanks
Charles

Subject: [IPP] Registration of bag/pocket/pouch/sleeve media types
Email was not sent from a Canon Network!
All,
I've been searching (so far unsuccessfully) for suppliers for the kinds of printable bags we discussed today during the IPP workgroup session in order to come up with a proposal for the media type names. Would appreciate pointers to suppliers/manufacturers so we can better understand what is required.
As for the basic media type name, I am hesitant to use a "bag" since that is normally associated with things that are more 3-dimensional. The terms "pocket" and "pouch" are often associated with flat things but also usually have some sort of adhesive, to attach them to boxes for shipping, for example. The term "sleeve" is used for flat bags for magazines and sleeves for CDs/DVDs and cards.
Assuming we followed the existing media types, I would tentatively propose the following "sleeve" media types:
sleeve
sleeve-archival
sleeve-glossy
sleeve-heavyweight
sleeve-high-gloss
sleeve-lightweight
sleeve-matte
sleeve-preprinted
sleeve-semi-gloss
sleeve-waterproof
This is probably overkill, and given the difficulty in finding these things in the first place I don't know how common they are, thus my call for others to speak up if they know of a company that makes or sells them.
Thanks!
