That's what Section 4.3.7 says:
'5' 'processing': One or more of:
1. the job is using, or is attempting to use, one or more purely software
processes that are analyzing, creating, or interpreting a PDL, etc.,
2. the job is using, or is attempting to use, one or more hardware devices
that are interpreting a PDL, making marks on a medium, and/or performing
finishing, such as stapling, etc.,
3. the Printer object has made the job ready for printing, but the output
device is not yet printing it, either because the job hasn't reached the
output device or because the job is queued in the output device or some other
spooler, awaiting the output device to print it.
So to me it seems to, that the job is on the way but has not necessarily yet
generated any output.

Hi,
In section 4.3.7 of the model document, it looks like if the job-state is
'processing' the printer is doing something with the print job either in
hardware or software and isn't producing any output.
In section 4.4.11 of the model docuemnt, it's not too clear to me what a
printer-state of processing means. Does it mean a job is processing (it's
job-state is processing)? Or does it mean that is is producing output?
