Subject: Re: [IDS] IDS WG Meetings

Thanks to everyone who responded to this email; I really appreciate the feedback.

I was unanimous from those who responded that Option 3 - Stop having the IDS WG Meetings every two weeks and just have the IDS Session at the PWS Face-to-Face Meetings. The PWG SC can determine when to restart the IDS WG Meetings - was clearly the preferred choice.

Based on that feedback I am taking the following actions:

  1.
Today's scheduled IDS WG Meeting is cancelled.
  2.
All scheduled IDS WG Meetings until the November PWG Face-to-Face Meetings on Nov 12-13 are also cancelled.
  3.
There will be an IDS Session at the November PWG Face-to-Face Meetings scheduled for 10:00 AM ET on Nov 13th. More on that as we get closer to Nov 13th

Between now and the November PWG Face-to-Face Meetings, the PWG Steering Committee will discuss what should be the next steps for the IDS WG.

However, I want to make one thing clear - the comments I received also made it clear that the IDS WG should not be disbanded. So, this is not a disbandment of the IDS WG; it is just a hold on regular IDS WG Meetings until we can figure out a better path to get more attendance at the meetings.

Thanks

Alan

Subject: IDS WG Meetings

This Thursday, Oct 19th, is supposed to be our next IDS WG Meeting. However, attendance at the last few IDS WG Meetings has been very low; in fact, at the last meeting only myself and one other person showed up.

We can't keep going as an IDS Working Group with such small attendance at each meeting. The problem is made worse by the fact that most of the attendees are PWG SC Members that really don't care about HCD iTC and HIT status, and the ones that do care about these statuses don't usually come because they already know the statuses from attending those meetings.

At the last PWG SC Meeting we discussed the situation. I noted that I do get a decent attendance at the IDS Sessions at the PWG Face-to-Face Sessions, so one thought is to stop the IDS WG Meetings which are not being attended for a while and just stick with the IDS Face2-to-Face sessions while we figure out where IDS should be going from here.

So, I'd like to here back from you - the people of the IDS reflector and on this DL -by this Wednesday your choice of the following three options:

  1.
Maintain the regular IDS WG Meetings for now. We would have a meeting this Thursday at the normal time of 3PM ET / 12 N PT. The agenda would be a review of the recent HCD iTC and HIT Meetings and a special topic that is currntly TBD,
  2.
Have a special IDS WG Meeting this Thursday at the at the normal time of 3PM ET / 12 N PT. The sole topic would be an open discussion of the future of IDS and where it should be going.
  3.
Stop having the IDS WG Meetings every two weeks and just have the IDS Session at the PWS Face-to-Face Meetings. The PWG SC can determine when to restart the IDS WG Meetings

Please let me know what your thoughts are here. If I don't here anything I will assume it is business as usual and go with Option 1. Below is the link to the meeting if we do have it.
