All,
For better or worse, we *have* delayed the development of a PWG Cloud Imaging Model in order to address existing Cloud Printing solutions and be able to evangelize the PWG Way to them. In order to do the model we need more document editors.
The PWG is currently working on 17 (!) standards-track and 2 informational documents. We have a total of 5 (soon to be 6) editors for all of those documents - that represents only 20% of the 29 member companies in the PWG. The existing document editors simply cannot take on new work.
I humbly ask that one or more participants in this group that are not already contributing as an officer or editor step up to create a skeleton document for the Cloud Imaging Model and Semantics document. I believe that MOST of the required technical content is already present in the original BOF slides and minutes along with the archives for this mailing list and just needs to be converted to the format required for a PWG document. You can find a current PWG Document Template for Microsoft Word here:
ftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/general/templates/wd-template.dotftp://ftp.pwg.org/pub/pwg/general/templates/wd-template.dotx (2007 and higher)
I totally understand that everyone involved with this group has lots of work to do, family to spend time with, etc. There are never enough hours in the day.
I am also not asking for someone to volunteer to be the sole editor for this document! Once the skeleton (preliminary) draft is done and posted, anyone can take over (or take turns) updating it on its journey towards PWG Candidate Standard.
What should be clear to everyone is that a few people cannot (and should not) do all of the work of the PWG. This is a cooperative organization whose stated goal is to develop standards that benefit us all. It is easy to say something should be done. Now is the time to actually do something. To paraphrase a famous US president: "Ask not what the PWG can do for you, but what YOU can do for the PWG."
Please, if you truly want the PWG to have its own Cloud Imaging Model sooner rather than later, step up and contribute by putting all of the pieces we have defined thus far in one document. It is absolutely the most important first step we need to make to advance this process, and I WANT YOU to write a PWG standard.
